Araghchi: The West cannot impose its will on Iran through sanctions

Sanctions are a failed instrument; Western countries cannot use them to impose their will on Iran; Tehran is open to dialogue, but dialogue should be based on mutual respect, not threats and pressure, Iranian Foreign Minister Sayyid Abbas Araghchi said.

In a joint statement on Tuesday, Germany, the U.K. and France threatened Iran with new sanctions, including the cancellation of bilateral air service agreements due to Tehran’s alleged supply of ballistic missiles to Russia.

As Fars news agency reports, Araghchi said these accusations are false.

“Western countries should know—and it’s surprising that they don’t know yet—that sanctions are a failed instrument, and they cannot impose their will on Iran with sanctions both in the nuclear sphere and in other issues,” the minister said.

To remind, on Sept. 2, Bloomberg issued a report claiming that Iran is going to transfer ballistic missiles to Russia amid the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
