Trade between Armenia and Iran has increased by 6% in the last 5 months: Iran’s Customs Administration’s report

The value of non-oil trade between Iran and Armenia increased by 6% in the first five months of the current calendar year (March 20 to Aug. 21) compared to the same period last year. According to Armenpress, Tehran Times reports this, citing the report of the Customs Administration of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Non-oil trade between the two countries was 885,719 tonnes worth $192,108 million, a year-on-year increase of 60%, reads the report.

It is also reported that in the first five months of the current year, Armenia was Iran’s 10th trading partner among its neighbors.

The report notes that the 18th session of the Iran-Armenia Joint Economic Committee was held in Tehran on Feb. 14-15, during which the two sides signed 19 documents and a memorandum of understanding in order to deepen cooperation in various fields.

The mentioned documents cover a number of areas, including trade development, customs cooperation, maritime transport, food and medicine.

It is also noted that the 18th session of the Iran-Armenia Joint Economic Commission, which was hosted by the Plan and Budget Organization of Iran, was attended by high-ranking officials and ministers of both sides, including the former head of the Plan and Budget Organization of Iran Mansour Dawood, Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan, Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Gnel Sanosyan, Armenian Deputy Minister of Economy Narek Teryan and Former Head of Iran Trade Promotion Organization Mehdi Zigami.
The report also refers to the fact that during another meeting held on the margins of the event, Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan met with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Mahdi Safari, where he called on Iranian companies to participate in Armenia’s road construction and infrastructure projects.
