Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with CSTO partners within the General Assembly High-level Week 2024, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan unexpectedly ignored the meeting, Kommersant writes.
It is not the first time that CSTO partners meet in Mirzoyan’s absence. This is a well-known scenario. However, it is noteworthy that not only the Armenian minister, but also the flag of the republic was missing from the joint photo-taking ceremony this time.
Last week, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan called the CSTO a threat to the country’s national security. Meanwhile, as the meeting in New York showed, CSTO members continue to pretend that nothing serious has happened.
The statement of Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs following the meeting did not even mention Armenia. It was only noted that “a wide range of international and regional security issues were discussed” during the conversation.
