Completely different from Bulbuloglu: Who is new Azerbaijani ambassador to Russia?

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev appointed Rahman Mustafayev as new ambassador to Russia. Mustafayev will replace Polad Bulbuloglu, who left Moscow. The successor of Bulbuloglu is his opposite. Unlike the cultural figure of the Soviet period, Ambassador Mustafayev belongs to the new generation of leaders of Azerbaijani diplomacy.

After graduating from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, he became a polyglot diplomat, working in a number of European countries with which Azerbaijan had either important economic projects or controversial relations. In his statements, he repeatedly harshly criticized the West, accusing it of putting pressure on Baku and disrupting the peaceful settlement in the South Caucasus.

The most dramatic thing was his business trip to France, which coincided with the Second Artsakh War in 2020 and the beginning of the settlement process between Baku and Yerevan.

To remind, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova has repeatedly talked about the “disruptive” policy of the West in the South Caucasus.

To remind, a number of experts and foreign media outlets emphasized the warming of Russian-Azerbaijani relations. And the U.S. Helsinki Commission’s report, citing numerous analyses, mentioned Russia’s support of the Azerbaijani military in the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war, including the secret supply of weapons to Azerbaijan through the Kremlin’s satellite, Belarus.
