Mishustin discusses with Iran’s leadership EAEU membership

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said that during talks held in Tehran, he discussed in detail with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian the issue of Iran’s membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the implementation of Russian-Iranian projects.

“We discussed in detail the development of bilateral relations; we agreed to deepen Russian-Iranian cooperation in all spheres; we paid special attention to the implementation of joint projects in the field of energy, transport infrastructure, high technologies and digital economy. We have discussed in detail the issue of Iran’s accession to the EAEU as an observer country,” Mishustin said at a Russian government session.

He also expressed hope that the free trade agreement between the EAEU and Iran will enter into force in the near future, which will “significantly improve the working conditions of Russian exporters in the Iranian market”.

The talks between the prime minister of Russia and the president of Iran took place on Sept. 30. Afterward, Mishustin immediately left for Armenia to attend the EAEU conference.
