The session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the CIS countries, chaired by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, has opened in Moscow. The meeting is closed for the press.
Before the start of the event, the sides participated in a joint photo-taking ceremony.
In a press briefing, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said the participants of the meeting will discuss the prospects for the development of multilateral cooperation in the CIS format, including the deepening of economic integration, confronting old and new challenges and threats, addressing issues related to cultural and humanitarian spheres.
Special attention will be paid to the preparations for the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War in 2025. In addition, the ministers are expected to exchange views on current international and regional topics.
Spokesperson for the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said on the evening of Oct. 7, on his birthday, Russian President Vladimir Putin will have informal meetings with the leaders of the CIS countries. On Oct. 8, the official summit of the CIS is planned.
