United Conservatory Movement demands right to decent education restoration

The United Conservatory Movement issued a statement, which reads as follows:

“The roof of Yerevan’s State Conservatory named after Komitas should have been repaired on Aug. 28, 2024. The agreement, which was concluded between MoESCS, the Urban Development Committee and Bidek construction company, has been violated. August, September, October: the roof is allegedly still being repaired. The news about the rains announced by Gagik Surenyan did not even cause them to rush or find a way out. As a result, the rain reached the third and partially the second floor from the fourth floor. The ceiling, floor, furniture and musical instruments remain wet in the building in addition to being exposed to the rain.

In wet conditions, instruments will gradually lose their functionality, becoming useless.

We, the students of the Conservatory, first demand an explanation for not completing the roof repair on time and for putting the higher educational institution in such a difficult situation.

We also demand urgent repair of both the roof and compensation for the issues caused by your omission.
We, the students, demand that our right to education be restored. Our Conservatory and its well-being and proper condition are extremely precious to us.”
