Old age pension: When to apply and under what conditions will it be suspended?

To qualify for an old age pension, two conditions must be met: one must be at least 63 years old, and they must have a minimum of 10 years of work experience, Lawyer Tigran Grigoryan said during the program “Orenachap”.

It is also possible to receive the old age pension one year early, that is, once the individual turns 62—provided that the individual has at least 35 years of work experience and is not currently employed.

In other words, if an individual has 35 years of work experience, they can claim pension upon turning 62.

So, when can an individual who has reached 63 or 62 years old and has the corresponding work experience apply for a pension?

“A person entitled to an old age pension can apply for it at any time at their discretion. However, it is important to remember that the pension is calculated from the date the application is submitted to the pension-granting authority. This means if one applies for a pension six months after turning 63, they will not receive the pension for those six months,” the lawyer explains.

Grigoryan also notes that the old age pension is granted for life but not beyond the point at which the right to receive a pension, as stipulated by law, is terminated. “The right to receive a pension may be suspended, for example, when a person renounces their Armenian citizenship and becomes a foreign citizen, or when false (non-authentic) documents are discovered in the pension process, and so on,” the lawyer stated.
