The village founded by the Kherumyan dynasty: Kheyrimli or Kheyrimlu (Photos)
The Holy Mother of God Church is located in the Kirants valley, in the administrative area of Acharkut village. The church was built in 1675. On the left side of the frontal stone, it is written “By the hand of Hakob”. This is most likely the name of the builder.
On the church’s facade, it is engraved, “In the year 1675, I, Melik Shahnazar, the son of Melik Aslamaz, from the Kherumyan house, the husband of my Khanzat, built the Holy Mother of God Church.” Legend has it that the Kherumyan dynasty, who were descendants of the Zakaryans in Georgia, ruled this area. There is a 500-year-old cemetery in the area adjacent to the church, which in itself is a remarkable phenomenon. However, it is in extremely poor condition, covered with bushes, and it is difficult, in general, to find any tombstone here. The origin of Kheyrimli village is connected with the Kherumyan dynasty because, according to legend, a part of that house moved to Georgia, and a part converted to Islam.
