U.S. President-elect Donald Trump is expected to name Senator Marco Rubio of Florida as his secretary of state, The New York Times writes, referring to its sources.
“Trump appears to have settled on the Florida senator, who has taken hard-line positions on China, Iran and Venezuela, to be the nation’s top diplomat,” at least three diplomatic sources said.
Trump could still change his mind at the last minute, the people said, but appeared to have settled on Mr. Rubio, whom he also considered when choosing his running mate this year.
Republican Senator Marco Rubio from Florida is a co-author of many bipartisan pro-Armenian resolutions in the U.S. Congress. In particular, he came forward with a legislative initiative condemning Azerbaijani aggression against Armenia, which called for the immediate termination of U.S. security support to Azerbaijan, the release of Armenian POWs, the imposition of sanctions for war crimes, as well as the increase of U.S. assistance to Armenia and Artsakh.
