Casualties reported as heavy rainfall strikes US
At least 9 people have died in heavy rainfall in the states of Georgia and Kentucky, CNN writes.
The storm has claimed eight lives in Kentucky and one in Georgia. In the last 24 hours, emergency services have managed to rescue over 1,000 individuals.
According to the governor, the rainfall is one of the “most severe weather events” the state has experienced in the last decade. In several areas of Kentucky, water levels have reached record highs, prompting local authorities to close roads in over 300 locations. Data from the PowerOutage monitoring resource indicates that nearly 30,000 consumers in the state are without electricity.
