Pezeshkian: Iran and Azerbaijan are jointly implementing a project to create a corridor through Iran to Nakhijevan
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will visit Azerbaijan today. On the eve of his visit, Pezeshkian gave an interview to the Azerbaijani state broadcaster AzTV. He stated that Iran is currently implementing a number of projects aimed at developing infrastructure for the North-South international transport corridor and plans to cooperate with Azerbaijan in this direction.
“We are carrying out projects for the construction and reconstruction of roads, including railways. These communications can strengthen our trade ties with Azerbaijan. Secondly, Azerbaijan can play a connecting role in relations and freight transportation between Iran and Russia. Thirdly, Azerbaijan itself can utilize Iran’s and the Persian Gulf’s potential to carry out transportation operations through Iran,” the Iranian president said.
According to him, Iran is fulfilling its obligations in this regard. “During our meeting with the president of Azerbaijan, we will discuss how to simplify this process by completing the infrastructure of the North-South intergovernmental railway and establishing internal communications to facilitate transportation.”
Additionally, Tehran considers cooperation between the two countries in industry, trade, and joint investments possible.
“We do not set any restrictions on cooperation between the two countries,” the Iranian president noted.
He added that Iran and Azerbaijan are currently implementing a joint project to create a corridor through Iran from Azerbaijan to Nakhijevan.
“I hope this route will resolve all communication issues between Azerbaijan and Nakhijevan. Moreover, this route can ensure secure and reliable connectivity between Azerbaijan and Iran’s regions,” Pezeshkian noted.
He also expressed Iran’s readiness to support the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, based on respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty of both countries.
“We hope that the acceptance of these principles will help resolve the disagreements and issues between Azerbaijan and Armenia,” the Iranian president concluded.
