Explosion occurs in Moscow with casualties reported

An explosion occurred in one of the multistory buildings on General Tyulenev Street in Moscow, followed by a fire on the 9th floor. According to emergency services, the suspected cause of the explosion is household gas. The fire has engulfed two apartments, and the roof between the 8th and 9th floors has collapsed.

Confirmed reports indicate that two people have died, and 18 others have been injured. Footage shared online shows their bodies hanging from a balcony.

According to SHOT, the gas supply to the building’s entrance where the fire broke out was shut off, and rescuers had to cut the pipe with a saw. The fire covered an area of approximately 100 square meters, with collapses affecting about 60 square meters. A part of the roof has also collapsed.

All residents of the 15 entrances into the building have been evacuated and temporarily placed in a nearby school.
