
Kurdistan Workers’ Party units in Iraq begin disarmament
The military wing of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) has announced that its militants in the semi-autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan will begin handing over their weapons, marking their first concrete step toward disarmament within the framework of a peace initiative.
“A group of militants will descend from the mountains and bid farewell to their weapons, demonstrating their good will toward peace and democratic politics,” the PKK said in a statement.
The disarmament process The ceremony to be held in the city of Sulaymaniyah from July 10 to 12 will be the first concrete step toward disarmament.
To remind, Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), who is currently serving a life sentence in a Turkish prison, has called on his supporters to lay down their weapons and disband the PKK.
