At present, Armenia is the only country in the region with a conventional nuclear power plant. The plant operates using Russian technology, and its fuel is imported from Russia. In other words, a large portion of Armenia’s energy security has been entrusted to Moscow. The US proposal to build a modular nuclear plant raises the question: could this signal a shift in Armenia’s energy strategy?
