The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has opened hearings on the case against Israel on a charge of genocidal actions against Hamas during the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip, timesofisrael.com reports.
The lawsuit was filed by the South African Republic, aimed at forcing Israel to end hostilities in the Gaza Strip.
To remind, yesterday, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken condemned South Africa’s decision to bring a case of genocide against Israel.
“The Biden administration believes the lawsuit is deflecting the world from the efforts to ensure the safety of hostages held by Hamas, to tackle the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and to prevent conflict expansion. Moreover, the accusation of genocide is unjust,” Blinken noted.
