The assassination of Yahya Sinwar, chairman of the Hamas political bureau, has been Israel’s biggest victory in the war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. His death is a big blow to the organization, which has brought the biggest defeat in history to the state of Israel, the BBC<\/a> writes.<\/p>\n

As noted, Sinwar was killed during an accidental clash with Israeli forces in Rafah, south of Gaza, and not during an operation planned by special forces.<\/p>\n

A photo taken at the scene shows Sinwar lying dead in his uniform in the rubble of a building hit by an Israeli tank.<\/p>\n

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the military, noting that no matter how great the victory, it is not the end of the war.<\/p>\n

Netanyahu has repeatedly reiterated the main goals of the war: the destruction of Hamas as a military and political force and the return of Israeli hostages to their homeland.<\/p>\n

Neither goal has yet been achieved, despite over a year of war that has left at least 42,000 Palestinians dead and much of the Gaza Strip in ruins.<\/p>\n
