On Oct. 22, MEPs will debate<\/a> with the Commission the political and human rights situation in Azerbaijan, followed by a vote on a resolution on Oct. 24.<\/p>\n

The debate and resolution will also center on Azerbaijan’s relations with neighboring Armenia, with the Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan recently having stated that a peace deal between the two countries could be agreed before Baku hosts the UN’s COP29 climate conference next month.<\/p>\n

As noted, Armenia and Azerbaijan have been embroiled in a decades-long conflict, which culminated in Baku launching a military assault and seizing the breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh last year, leading to an exodus of approximately 100 000 ethnic Armenians.
