By ratifying the Rome Statute, Armenia gives up its legal
\nsovereignty. This is, in fact, demeaning. Senator at the Federation Council
\nKonstantin Kosachev made a Telegram post on this.<\/p>\n
“Truly sovereign states, such as Russia, the U.S., India,
\nChina, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Iran and others, are not members of the
\nICC,” Kosachev wrote.<\/p>\n
He noted that this ratification constitutes an “overtly
\nunfriendly move against Russia”. There were no political forces in the Armenian
\nparliament that would be able to prevent the process.<\/p>\n
“It would be naive to think that hereby Armenia will be able
\nto solve the issues regarding the alleged war crimes committed in the conflict
\nzone between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Many a time, the ICC case law has proven
\nquite the opposite: interference in the domestic affairs of the member states.
\nAfter all, today’s decision of ratification can backfire on the Armenian
\nauthorities in the future,” Kosachev wrote.<\/p>\n\n
To remind, today the National Assembly of Armenia ratified
\nthe Rome Statute by a vote of 60 to 22.
