High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas stated in Brussels before a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council that the events<\/a> in Georgia do not align with what is expected from a candidate country.<\/p>\n

Kallas noted that the Foreign Ministers’ meeting will discuss sanctions against Georgia and restrictions on the visa-free regime.<\/p>\n

She also said the EU is considering imposing personal sanctions on several Georgian politicians, although there is no consensus on the list at the moment.<\/p>\n

Upon arriving at the EU Foreign Ministers’ meeting, Xavier Bettel, Luxembourg’s foreign minister, declared that the elections in Georgia had been transparent and opposed sanctions against the Georgian Dream party, arguing that they would be “sanctions against the elections.”<\/p>\n
