A liturgy was performed in the Cathedral of the Holy Cross
\non Aghtamar Island in Lake Van. A huge number of Armenians attended the
\nliturgy, Armenpress reports.

<\/p><\/p>\n

Unprecedented security measures were taken for the liturgy
\nthis year. People, who arrived in Turkey from Armenia, were escorted from
\nhotels to the island by officers of the Turkish security services. Dozens of
\npolice officers carried out special patrols on the island. The police
\nhelicopter hovered in the sky throughout the liturgy.

Fortunately, no incident occurred, and the ceremony went
\nsmoothly. The liturgy was attended not only by Armenians, but also by many
\ntourists from all over the world.

The liturgy is allowed once a year by the Turkish
\nauthorities on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross<\/p>\n
