A total of 216 inmates have escaped from a prison in Karachi, Pakistan, when several underground tremors fractured the building and the prison fence.<\/p>\n
“The escape occurred as the prisoners panicked due to the tremors,” Zia Ul Hassan Lanjar, Minister of Sindh’s Law Enforcement Agencies, said.<\/p>\n
Lanjar added that this was one of the greatest prison escapes in Pakistan’s history.<\/p>\n
After the first tremor, the inmates were temporarily moved to the prison yard as a precaution.<\/p>\n
