U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he is sending National Guard forces to Los Angeles to “suppress” anti-ICE protests.<\/p>\n
He accused California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass of failing to manage the situation.<\/p>\n
“If Governor Newsom and Mayor Bass cannot handle their job, then the federal government will step in and address the problem — by fighting against protesters and looters as necessary,” Trump wrote.<\/p>\n
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that 2,000 National Guard troops are being deployed to Los Angeles with the aim of arresting protesters.<\/p>\n
According to the White House, the National Guard forces will operate under Title 10 authority, meaning they will act under federal command without invoking the Insurrection Act.<\/p>\n
