In a phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that Ankara is ready to take on a mediating role to expedite the resolution of the Israel-Iran conflict and to return to negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear program, the Office of the Turkish president said after the call.<\/p>\n
“President Erdoğan noted that he has had several contacts with foreign leaders regarding the Israel-Iran conflict and that Turkey is ready to assume a mediating role to quickly end the conflict and resume talks on the nuclear program,” reads the statement.<\/p>\n
Erdoğan also told Pezeshkian that “Turkey places great importance on maintaining peace and stability in the region.”<\/p>\n
The presidents of Turkey and Iran previously had a phone conversation on June 14. On the night of June 13, Israel launched a military operation targeting Iran’s nuclear program. A day later, the Islamic Republic responded with a retaliatory attack.
