Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society violates the fundamental
\nprinciples of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, first of
\nall, the principle of neutrality, and gets involved in political processes,
\nraising the position of its government, that is, to keep the Lachin Corridor
\nclosed, the Armenian Red Cross Society states.
<\/p><\/p>\n
“The drawing in of the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society in
\nthe political processes contradicts the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross
\nand Red Crescent International Movement; the latter does not have mandate to
\nmake political statements and serve the political agenda.
<\/p><\/p>\n
This is a rude breach and non-compliance to the Movement
\nprinciples and values as well as to the humanitarian agenda.
<\/p><\/p>\n
Presently, Azerbaijan also using the Azerbaijan Red Crescent
\nSociety is trying to obstruct the activity of the ICRC as the only humanitarian
\ninternational organization operating in Nagorno-Karabakh.
<\/p><\/p>\n
Clear evidence of that was the abduction of Vagif
\nKhachatryan, who was kidnapped near the checkpoint on his way to be transferred
\nto Armenia for surgery under ICRC escort. He was kidnapped while under the
\nprotection of International Humanitarian Law.
<\/p><\/p>\n
Since July 26, 2023, a convoy carrying humanitarian aid sent
\nby Armenia is stranded on Hakari Bridge․ The Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society
\ncould use its “humanitarian power” to convince the side which blocked the
\nLachin corridor and caused the humanitarian catastrophe to open it respecting
\nhumanitarian principles.
<\/p><\/p>\n
The International Committee of the Red Cross, with its July
\n25, 2023 statement, attracted the attention of the international community
\ntowards the concerning humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, which was
\nalso presented during the Security Council by the representative of OCHA.
<\/p><\/p>\n
Hence, it is an urgent necessity to ensure the immediate
\nimplementation of the 22 February and 6 July 2023 decisions of the UN
\nInternational Court of Justice.
<\/p><\/p>\n
We are calling upon all the components of the International
\nRed Cross Movement: International Committee of the Red Cross, International
\nFederation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and Azerbaijan Red Crescent
\nSociety to steadily follow and adhere to the Movement principles, to fulfill
\ntheir complementary roles within their mandates, in favor of effective
\nhumanitarian mission implementation,” reads the statement.
