The military wing of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) has announced<\/a> that its militants in the semi-autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan will begin handing over their weapons, marking their first concrete step toward disarmament within the framework of a peace initiative.<\/p>\n

“A group of militants will descend from the mountains and bid farewell to their weapons, demonstrating their good will toward peace and democratic politics,” the PKK said in a statement.<\/p>\n

The disarmament process The ceremony to be held in the city of Sulaymaniyah from July 10 to 12 will be the first concrete step toward disarmament.<\/p>\n
