German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has promised<\/a> Washington a decisive response in the event of escalating the U.S.-EU trade war, noting that the United States should not underestimate the European Union’s willingness to react to increases in trade tariffs.<\/p>\n

“The U.S. government should not underestimate our readiness to respond with mirror measures to the rise in tariffs,” Merz said.<\/p>\n

He highlighted that the EU is prepared for such a step but remains hopeful that disagreements can be resolved through negotiations.<\/p>\n

The German chancellor stated that he maintains continuous contact with U.S. President Donald Trump and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.<\/p>\n
