The issue of a “corridor” has been “set aside,” and the discussion now concerns a “transit road” that will pass through Armenia under that country’s sovereignty and jurisdiction, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated.<\/p>\n
He emphasized, however, that as noted in the Foreign Ministry’s statement, any foreign presence in the region could negatively impact peace and stability, and the presence of an American company is a cause for concern.<\/p>\n
Araghchi said this issue has been, and will continue to be, raised in discussions with both Azerbaijan and Armenia.<\/p>\n
He added that Tehran’s position in the region is also clear: it supports the full sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries and does not accept any changes to international borders.<\/p>\n
Araghchi said he will hold a phone conversation with his Armenian counterpart, Ararat Mirzoyan, and a discussion with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is also planned.
