The process of registration of parties standing for the
\nYerevan Council of Elders elections started on Aug. 3. To remind, the elections
\nare scheduled for Sept. 17. However, no political force has submitted an
\napplication to the CEC to stand for the elections yet.

Despite this, in the past few days, a number of political
\nforces announced their intention to run for the elections.
<\/p><\/p>\n
The ruling Civil Contract party announced its decision to
\nrun for the elections in March, 2022, Tigran Avinyan’s name being the first on
\nthe list.
<\/p><\/p>\n
The Country of Living party’s candidate for the post of the
\nmayor is Leader of the party Mane Tandilyan. At one of the party’s congresses,
\nMane Tandilyan suggested turning the elections into an “impeachment vote
\nagainst the authorities”.
<\/p><\/p>\n
The Bright Armenia party announced that Davit Khazhakyan’s
\nname will be the first on their list.
<\/p><\/p>\n
Today, Andranik Tevanyan made a video near the Statue of
\nMother Armenia and noted that the Mother Armenia popular movement will run for
\nthe Yerevan Council of Elders elections. He is an MP from the NA Armenia
\nalliance. However, the Armenia alliance has not considered running for the
\nelections.
<\/p><\/p>\n
Former Mayor of Yerevan Hayk Marutyan officially announced
\nhis decision to stand for the elections for the first time today. His name will
\nhead the list of the National Progress Party of Armenia party.
<\/p><\/p>\n
Former Head of the Administrative District of Kentron Viktor
\nMnatsakanyan is nominated by the Victory party.
<\/p><\/p>\n
Former Minister of Justice, member of the party council of
\nthe Hanrapetutyun (“Republic”) party Artak Zeynalyan is another
\ncandidate for the mayor’s post.
<\/p><\/p>\n
The Strength of the Fatherland party, led by Tigran
\nArzakantsyan announced its decision to stand for the elections. First, it was
\nannounced that the co-founder of the party, Arzakantsyan’s wife Natalia
\nRotenberg’s name would head the list of their candidates. However, two days
\nlater, the party’s governing body changed its decision. Thus, Nelly Harutyunyan’s
\nname will be the first on the list.
<\/p><\/p>\n
In July, the For Social Justice party announced its
\nintention to run for the Council of Elders elections.
<\/p><\/p>\n
The European Party of Armenia initially announced its
\ndecision to nominate songwriter Ruben Hakhverdyan. However, later they changed
\ntheir mind. Thus, the party will stand for the elections in alliance with the
\nSocial Democrat Hunchakian Party (SDHP). Head of Armenian Euro-Atlantic Centre
\nfor Integration, sociologist Karen Sargsyan will head the list.
<\/p><\/p>\n
The deadline for submitting the applications is Aug. 13.
\nFrom Aug. 13 to Aug. 18, the registration will be conducted. The election
\ncampaign will start on Aug. 23 and will last till Sept. 15.
<\/p><\/p>\n\n
The previous Yerevan Council of Elders elections were held
\non Sept. 23, 2018. The Council of Elders assumed power on Oct. 10, 2018 and
\nwill give up power on Oct. 10, 2023.
