The National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh issued a
\nstatement, calling on the member states of the U.N. to recognize the
\nindependence of Artsakh.<\/p>\n
“Undeniable is the fact that there are all grounds for
\nrecognition. The Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh (the Republic of Artsakh) exercised
\nits right to self-determination without violation of any principles of
\ninternational law, without undermining the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan,
\nwithout violation of relevant provisions of the Constitution of the USSR, and
\nwithout violating the law of April 3, 1990 “Concerning the Procedure of
\nSecession of a Union Republic from the USSR”, which stands that autonomous
\nrepublics, autonomous regions and autonomous territories retain the right to
\ndecide independently the question of remaining within the USSR or within the
\nseceding Union republic, and also to raise the question of their own state
\nlegal status,” reads the statement.<\/p>\n
It is also mentioned in the statement that the imminent
\ndisaster can be averted solely by the recognition of the independence of the
\nRepublic of Nagorno-Karabakh (the Republic of Artsakh).<\/p>\n
\n<\/p>
“We are absolutely sure that the recognition of the
\nRepublic of Nagorno-Karabakh (the Republic of Artsakh) by member states of the
\nU.N. will give our people a reliable guarantee for security, will help ensure
\nfavorable conditions for life in their historical homeland and will bring about
\nstability and lasting peace in the South Caucasus,” reads the statement.
