Today, a group of students from Artsakh staged a protest
\naction outside the ICRC office in Yerevan.
<\/p><\/p>\n
The students sang the national anthem of Artsakh. Afterward,
\nthey referred to the problems facing their parents, sisters, brothers and
\nrelatives in Artsakh. They noted that today, people in Artsakh are facing a
\nshortage of bread, water and medical supplies. Pregnant women suffer
\nmalnourishment, thus risking their children’s health and that of their own.
<\/p><\/p>\n
“In the 21st century, people can lose consciousness,
\nwhile standing in line for bread,” a participant of the action said.
<\/p><\/p>\n
Their major demand from the ICRC was to send humanitarian
\naid to Artsakh.
<\/p><\/p>\n
“Currently, 120,000 Armenians are held hostage in
\nArtsakh, being denied their fundamental rights. Thus, as an international
\nhumanitarian organization, you are obliged to stand by the Armenians of Artsakh
\nand to send them humanitarian aid. We demand that you inform the international
\ncommunity that a new genocide is being committed in the 21st century. Let them
\nknow that 120,000 people are left to starve,” one of the participants
\nnoted.
<\/p><\/p>\n
The students handed over the letter to the ICRC representative.
\nThe latter assured them that he would give it to the Head of Delegation of the
\nInternational Committee of the Red Cross in Armenia, Thierry Ribaux. Afterward,
\na meeting will be organized with him.
