The Armenian authorities are eliminating the opposition ahead of next year’s parliamentary elections, building a dictatorship in the country rather than a democracy, Harout Sasunyan, a representative of the Armenian diaspora in the U.S. and editor-in-chief of The California Courier, told RIA Novosti with regard to recent attacks against opposition politicians in Armenia and the arrest of the mayor of Gyumri.<\/p>\n
“Sashinyan wants to remain prime minister for another five years, and therefore, before the elections, he is trying to get rid of those who oppose him,” Sasunyan stated.<\/p>\n
He expressed confidence that this is dictatorship, not democracy. “Pashinyan calls it democracy, but in reality, it is far from democratic and resembles dictatorship more,” he noted.<\/p>\n
Sasunyan added that the actions of the Armenian authorities are seriously harming the country’s interests. “The Armenian people need to wake up and start protesting.
