At least 23 inmates have escaped from a prison in Puerto Vallarta, in Mexico’s Jalisco state, during a riot.<\/p>\n
The announcement was made by State Public Security Minister Juan Pablo Hernández in a statement to NMas television. He said the investigation has confirmed the escape of 23 prisoners, and notices have been sent to federal authorities requesting their capture.<\/p>\n
According to reports, the unrest began after the killing of a leader of the Jalisco New Generation drug cartel.<\/p>\n
Sources indicate that during the clashes, accomplices of the inmates opened fire on the prison, rammed the facility’s gates with a vehicle, and forced their way inside.<\/p>\n
