Some EU officials have discussed the possibility of imposing
\nsuspension of voting rights on Hungary so that they can agree on a new aid
\npackage for Ukraine, the Financial Times reports, citing its sources.

As noted, the suspension of voting rights of an EU member
\nstate can be blocked by another member state. However, as mentioned in the
\npublication, the recent change of government in Poland means Hungary no longer
\nhas a “guaranteed protector”.

Thus, the EU countries want to make Hungarian Prime Minister
\nViktor Orban realize the “full costs” of a country’s isolation from the EU. If
\nthis does not work, the 26 EU members could agree on providing aid to Ukraine
\non their own, although it would “take time and only offer a short-term fix”.
