From the exquisite Queen Victoria-commissioned gown she was christened in, to the favourite tartans and tweeds she wore in the later years of her life, a stunning new exhibition examines the legacy of Queen Elizabeth II as never before, the Daily Mail<\/a> writes.<\/p>\n

More than 300 items from the late monarch’s wardrobe, at least half of which are going on display for the first time, will be shown at the King’s Gallery in London from Friday to mark the centenary of her birth.<\/p>\n

As well as some of the stand-out pieces of her life and reign – from her show-stopping Norman Hartnell-designed wedding and coronation gowns, to the salmon pink ensemble she sported to pretend to jump out of a helicopter at the 2012 Olympics – the exhibition features some uniquely personal pieces too.<\/p>\n

There is a specially-designed maternity evening dress created to elegantly disguise what would be the future King Charles III in 1948.<\/p>\n

Preparations for the exhibition lasted 18 months.<\/p>\n
