More than 840,000 people die every year from health conditions linked to psychosocial risks at work – including long working hours, job insecurity, and workplace harassment– according to a new report by the International Labour Organization (ILO), a United Nations agency, Euronews<\/a> writes.<\/p>\n

Work-related psychosocial risks are mainly associated with cardiovascular diseases and mental health disorders, including suicide, the report noted.<\/p>\n

The most common conditions include depression, anxiety disorders, burnout, sleep disturbances, and fatigue.<\/p>\n

Smoking, alcohol consumption, overeating, and physical inactivity due to problems in the workplace can lead to obesity, hypertension, and other chronic diseases.<\/p>\n

The report identifies long working hours, bullying, job strain, effort–reward imbalance, job insecurity and violence and harassment as the main drivers of bad health among workers.<\/p>\n

The ILO estimates that globally, 35% of workers work more than 48 hours per week.<\/p>\n

The agency is calling on workplaces to pay closer attention to how work is organized and managed, including the structuring of workloads, the allocation of roles, and the distribution of working hours.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
