British PM Keir Starmer has told his cabinet he will “get on with governing” and a leadership contest has not been triggered as he faces growing calls to resign, the BBC<\/a> writes.<\/p>\n

His statement comes amid pressure from Labour MPs demanding either his immediate resignation or the setting of a clear timeline for stepping down.<\/p>\n

Pressure has been building on Starmer after Labour’s disastrous performance in last week’s English council elections.<\/p>\n

“The past ​48 hours have been destabilising for government and that has a real economic cost for our country and for families,” Starmer told ministers.<\/p>\n
