Nearly 5,000 US military flights were launched from European air bases as part of the operation against Iran, demonstrating that Europe remains a strategically vital military ally for Washington, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said in an interview with the Financial Times.<\/p>\n
“If you look at the bigger picture, you can see that European countries are delivering on their commitments. This has resulted in 4,000, perhaps even as many as 5,000 US flights conducted from European airports in support of Operation Epic Fury,” the NATO chief said.<\/p>\n
Rutte expressed confidence that “Europe is once again the primary platform for the United States to project its power.” At the same time, he acknowledged that “in general, the United States has been disappointed by individual cases in which Europeans have not always fulfilled” their bilateral commitments.<\/p>\n
“I’m not saying these individual cases of disappointment do not exist, but overall, the picture is very positive,” the NATO secretary general added.<\/p>\n
