The U.S. has consistently said that it would like to see a
\nnormalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. U.S. Ambassador to
\nthe Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Michael
\nCarpenter said this at a press briefing.

As he noted, the U.S. supported a number of talks between
\nArmenia and Azerbaijan over the course of the last year.
<\/p><\/p>\n
“Secretary Blinken has been personally involved in this
\neffort to try to find a peace agreement that would pave the way for
\nnormalization of relations, open communications, and trade throughout the
\nregion, which we think is in the interests of all countries in the South
\nCaucasus,” Carpenter noted, adding Washington will continue to support and
\noffer their good offices for meetings between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

He noted that the parties themselves should strive to reach
\na settlement.
<\/p><\/p>\n\n
“Ultimately, it’s up to the parties, of course, to avail
\nthemselves of those good offices or those offers of mediation to support their
\nefforts to reach a normalization agreement,” he said.
