Armenia is de facto not participating in discussions within the Collective Security Treaty Organization, but remains a de jure member of the organization, CSTO Secretary General Taalatbek Masadykov told TASS.<\/p>\n
“You know, we have been discussing this issue for a long time. De facto, Armenia does not participate in CSTO discussions. De facto, Armenia does not send its employees, military personnel or staff members to the CSTO Secretariat to fill quota-based positions, and Armenia has not paid its membership fees for the third year in a row. But de jure, it remains a member of the Collective Security Treaty Organization,” he said.<\/p>\n
According to the secretary general, Armenia has made a significant contribution to the development of the CSTO, while the Armenian people have supported all initiatives put forward by the country’s leadership at different times.<\/p>\n
Masadykov said that the decision to remove Armenia from the CSTO falls within the authority of the countries’ supreme commanders, but that all circumstances must be taken into account.<\/p>\n
“I believe that when making decisions, all circumstances and factors should always be taken into consideration. Whether this issue will be seriously discussed at the CSTO meeting to be held in Moscow this November is also a question; that is a decision for the heads of state. Let’s not rush [to conclusions about how events will unfold],” he said.<\/p>\n
According to Masadykov, if Armenia’s leadership, “in this case, Prime Minister Pashinyan, has made such a statement, then presumably there are different agendas.”<\/p>\n
