The United Nations played no role in implementing four UN Security Council resolutions concerning the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, “so Azerbaijan independently restored its sovereignty and territorial integrity”.<\/p>\n
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said at the high-level meeting in the SCO Plus format.<\/p>\n
Ilham Aliyev stressed the need to develop appropriate mechanisms to ensure that UN Security Council resolutions are implemented within a short timeframe.<\/p>\n
“If this is done, it will enhance the authority of the UN and strengthen the organization’s role in conflict resolution,” the Azerbaijani president noted.<\/p>\n
He added, that Azerbaijan and Armenia are working to increase the volume of bilateral trade.<\/p>\n
“Together with Armenia, we are working to increase the volume of bilateral trade, expand its range, and establish new land transportation links,” Aliyev said.<\/p>\n
The president noted that Azerbaijan is already supplying petroleum products to Armenia and facilitating the transit of goods from third countries.<\/p>\n
According to him, a little more than a year ago, Azerbaijan and Armenia brought an end to a conflict that had lasted for more than 30 years by initialing the text of a peace agreement.<\/p>\n
