The FAO attributes this significant price increase to a combination of weather and geopolitical factors. Extreme heat and drought in many regions are negatively impacting harvests. Meanwhile, military conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East are leading to supply disruptions, which are also driving up prices.<\/p>\n
Specifically, wheat prices in August were 15% higher than in the same period in 2025 and 2.6% higher than in July. According to the FAO, this is primarily due to “ongoing disruptions to export logistics in the Black Sea,” as well as hot and dry weather in many parts of Europe. Sugar prices rose 11.9% over the month.<\/p>\n
