Pashinyan, however, is hoping to somehow persuade Putin to soften his stance. His goal is to stall for time without making a final choice. Although, in reality, that choice was actually made long ago. Of course, he understands that Moscow is not at all happy about his re-election.<\/p>\n

As the publication writes, it’s difficult to say what Pashinyan is hoping for He has virtually no leverage left in his arsenal against his “adversary.” The arrests of Russia-friendly opposition leaders and threats against Russian businesses have had no effect. Nor has the final argument—an attempt to blackmail Moscow with the fate of the Russian military base. Russian President Vladimir Putin settled the matter in Bishkek, declaring that Russia is ready to withdraw its troops “even tomorrow” if Armenia no longer needs the base. In the words of US President Trump, Pashinyan currently has “no trump cards.” And no one will give him any extra time.
