India and Armenia are continuing to strengthen their rapidly expanding defense relationship, with Indian military personnel now providing specialised training on the Akash air defence system to Armenian troops within Armenia itself, Indian Defense Times reports.<\/p>\n
The training effort represents another significant milestone in a partnership that has evolved considerably in recent years and highlights the increasing operational cooperation between the armed forces of both nations.<\/p>\n
“Beyond the sale and delivery of military hardware, the training component underscores India’s commitment to ensuring that Armenian forces are able to effectively operate and maintain the sophisticated air defence platform,” the publication writes. Indian military instructors are helping Armenian operators familiarise themselves with the system’s capabilities, operational procedures, maintenance requirements and tactical employment. The growing defence relationship between India and Armenia is occurring against the backdrop of wider geopolitical changes in the South Caucasus region. Armenia has sought to diversify its defence procurement sources and reduce dependence on traditional suppliers, creating opportunities for deeper engagement with India.<\/p>\n
