Armenia has already inducted Indian-made Pinaka Mk-II guided rockets as well as Pinaka Extended Range (ER) unguided rockets into its military inventory. However, it is not yet clear which Pinaka variant will serve as the basis for any potential Armenian domestic manufacturing programme.<\/p>\n

The push for local production is understood to be driven, at least in part, by the nature of modern rocket artillery warfare. Systems such as Pinaka can consume large quantities of ammunition over the course of sustained combat operations: assembly and production at a local level can be particularly useful for ensuring stocks and reducing dependence on repeated imports.<\/p>\n

Under a potential arrangement, an Indian defence public-sector undertaking or other Indian defence-industry entity could provide technology support, manufacturing know-how, production assistance and training to Armenian personnel. Such an arrangement would allow Armenia to gradually develop an indigenous industrial capability to surround the Pinaka system rather than relying solely on finished rockets supplied from India.<\/p>\n
