Democrats cemented control of the Senate with an upset victory in Iowa, Reuters<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n

It was the latest in a succession of victories in Republican bastions like Kansas, Texas and South Carolina that gained Democrats six seats in the chamber.<\/p>\n

Democrats could lose both of the seats they are defending in Michigan and Minnesota and still have enough to have a majority in the Senate.<\/p>\n

In Texas, where Democrats have not won a statewide office in more than 30 years, Democrat James Talarico decisively defeated Trump’s chosen candidate, Ken Paxton.<\/p>\n

In South Carolina, Democrat Annie Andrews defeated incumbent Republican Darline Graham, who had been handpicked by Trump to replace her late brother Lindsey Graham after he died this year.<\/p>\n

And in Ohio, Democrat Sherrod Brown claimed a seat that two years ago was held by Vice President JD Vance.<\/p>\n

According to the BBC<\/a>, the US midterm elections for both chambers of Congress are nearing their conclusion. The outcome of the vote will have major implications for the final two years of Donald Trump’s presidency.<\/p>\n

Trump’s Republican Party currently holds majorities in both chambers of Congress – the House of Representatives and the Senate. Pre-election polls suggested that the Democratic Party had a strong chance of gaining control of one or even both chambers, potentially making it significantly harder for Trump to advance his political agenda during the remaining two years of his term.<\/p>\n

On November 3, Americans voted to elect all 435 members of the House of Representatives and 35 of the Senate’s 100 members.<\/p>\n

In the House of Representatives, Republicans currently hold 218 seats, giving them a narrow majority, along with one independent member of Congress who caucuses with them. In the Senate, Trump’s party holds 53 of the 100 seats.<\/p>\n

In some cases, it may take time for complete and final election results to become available.<\/p>\n

One of the reasons is postal voting. Counting mail-in ballots takes considerably longer, as election officials must process the envelopes and verify voters’ signatures.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
