The CSTO sees a strong conflict possibility on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border; a peace treaty is needed to handle the situation. According to TASS, CSTO Chief of Staff, Col. Gen. Andrey Serdyukov said this at a press briefing.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Attempts by individual states to strengthen their positions in the South Caucasus, to gain access to the resources of the Caspian Sea and to ensure their direct access to Central Asia can be seen,” Serdyukov said.<\/span><\/p>\n

“To this end, among other things, they actively use the great conflict potential on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. Conclusion of a peace treaty is important for further handling of the situation,” he added.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to Serdyukov, the West seeks to influence the conflict settlement process between Yerevan and Baku, despite Armenia’s membership in the CSTO.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Despite Armenia’s membership in the CSTO, attempts from without continue to influence the conflict settlement process,” he noted.<\/span><\/p>\n

To remind, at 5:30 a.m. on Feb. 13, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces opened fire from small arms on the Armenian positions in Nerkin Hand. Four servicemen were killed, and another was wounded on the Armenian side.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
