Talks on Ukraine’s accession to the EU have been delayed until summer. As AFP reports, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said this at a press conference in Brussels.<\/span><\/p>\n

She does not think that a base necessary for talks will be created before the European Parliament elections, which are due on June 6-9.<\/span><\/p>\n

“It will take some time. The European Union may be ready in the early summer,” Ursula von der Leyen said.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to her, the European Commission is working on the guiding principles of talks with Ukraine. She noted that the membership of a new country must be approved by all 27 member states of the EU.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Dec. 14, the EU leaders officially started talks over the membership of Ukraine and Moldova. French President Emmanuel Macron called the decision political rather than legal.
