Armenia can apply for membership in the European Union, Lead Spokesperson for the External Affairs of the EU Peter Stano told Izvestiya.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Countries have the right to strive for a better future for their people. They are free to decide how to ensure such a future. The people and the government of any European country should decide whether they want to apply for EU membership or not,” he said in response to the question as to whether the doors of the EU are open for Armenia.<\/span><\/p>\n

He noted that when a country submits an application for membership in the EU, it is reviewed by the member states, and the decision is made “based on the EU agreements and established standards”.<\/span><\/p>\n

To remind, the European Parliament has approved a resolution, offering to consider the possibility of giving Armenia the status of a candidate for EU membership.
