Pedro Khisdonyan, an MP of the General Assembly of Uruguay (Parliament) of Armenian origin, was elected vice president of the Chamber of Representatives of Uruguay, the Armenian Embassy in Uruguay reports.<\/span><\/p>\n

In their speeches before the election, the Uruguayan parliamentarians particularly emphasized the Armenian origin of the MP and congratulated the Armenian Uruguayans on the occasion of Khisdonyan’s election.<\/span><\/p>\n

In his speech, Khisdonyan talked about his Armenian roots and the situation in Armenia.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Many legislators mentioned the origin of my ancestors, my distant homeland, Armenia, which, like in the early 20th century, is now experiencing hard times, and there have been reports of violence and intolerance by Azerbaijan and its accomplices, which must be condemned. Uruguay set an example to the world by becoming the first to officially recognize the Armenian Genocide.
